DR. MICHAEL SHAUGHNESSY, M.D.
Dr. Michael Shaughnessy is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biology from Duke University prior to receiving his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He then completed his internship at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and dermatology residency at the prestigious Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Program training at MGH, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel, and Boston Children’s Hospital. Following residency, Dr. Shaughnessy completed a fellowship in Cutaneous Oncology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University.
Dr. Shaughnessy’s research has primarily focused on melanoma in addition to basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on skin cancer.
As a double board-certified physician in both dermatology and Mohs surgery, Dr. Shaughnessy is an expert in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer, including the surgical removal of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and more rare types of skin cancer. Having received dedicated fellowship training in dermatologic surgery, he specializes in cosmetic reconstructive techniques, such as the use of skin flaps and grafts.
Dr. Shaughnessy is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American College of Mohs Surgery in addition to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa Honors societies.
